Valerie Kathawala is an NYC-based wine writer. With a focus on the wines of Germany, Austria, and northern Italy and a particular interest in biodynamics, she explores the intersection of human effort and natural influence that yields the world's most fascinating drink. She is WSET 3 certified, has studied under Ian D’Agata, and gained hands-on winemaking experience as a Finger Lakes Harvest House intern. Valerie is a lifelong student of German culture and language and has lived, studied, and worked in both Germany and Austria. Her crossover from translation and editorial work to wine writing was a natural outflow and confluence of these experiences. Valerie’s recent work has been featured in the print journal Pipette as well as on WineFolly, The Vintner Project, Grape Collective . She lives with her husband and three children in Manhattan.
